Sake & Cheese pairing

Cheese and Japanese Sake is not what one would first think to pair, but it’s in fact a match made in heaven! We are delighted to welcome Jerome Bronzini, one of the top sake experts of the Nordics, to this one-of-a-kind tasting event at Rolling Cheese.

With Jerome, we will be taken on a tour of the amazing world of this traditional Japanese beverage tasting four different sakes from classic, light and floral to modern and to the more distinguished. Alongside the sake you will get to try a variety of cheeses to explore intriguing and inspiring flavour combinations.

About Jerome

Jerome is a French Sake Sommelier and Sake Educator for the Sake Sommelier Association (in charge of Estonia and Finland), as well as a certified Sake Professional and Sake Scholar.

Out of passion for the Japanese culture and sake in particular, he launched Sake Calling in 2023 in order to raise awareness about this misunderstood beverage and help develop the sake industry in the region.

But what is sake exactly?

Not a spirit or a strong alcohol like most people assume. Rather something more mellow and incredibly versatile (it is after all often referred to as ‘Japanese rice wine’ though the term is incorrect) that just happens to pair wonderfully with cheese due to being both the result of a fermentation involving a common element, lactic acid, and delivering a common flavour: umami.
